Our client is the first full-stack DeFi platform that enables institutions to participate directly in DeFi markets without having to substantially increase technical headcount and portfolio risk. Their robust infrastructure and unique interface layer provides their clients with reliable execution, an easy-to-use web UI and API, and full trade life cycle support.

About the Role

They are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Lead Engineer to run the design, build and architecture of mission-critical systems as part of their various offerings. Reporting to their CTO, you’ll be responsible for helping the team define their technical roadmap, plans, and goals, helping them achieve those goals, and guiding team members to develop their technical skills and careers. Simultaneously, you’ll be a highly technical contributor to the team, doing hands-on coding every day.

The DeFi space is constantly shifting and evolving, and one of their biggest challenges is creating and maintaining a technical foundation that can keep up with these changes. In addition to being a strong coder, this individual must be an outstanding mentor, communicator, and bridge-builder across different parts of the technology  organization and broader business. You’ll put your experience to work with helping development teams design and implement their solutions, as well as build and develop the next layer of technical talent underneath you.

As Lead Backend Engineer, you can expect to:

• Scope, architect, and deliver solutions for our client's largest, most complex technical challenges.
• Effectively resolve ambiguity, helping the team to analyze complex requirements and break down features and initiatives into tasks.
• Provide technical input and knowledge to the planning, design, and requirements process for new products and features.
• Review other software engineers’ code for correctness, style, and information security concerns.
• Improve the performance, maintainability, and operations of the code base by engaging in refactoring and upgrade projects.
• Support your team’s production software by responding to occasional alerts or bug reports.
• Adapt the team’s plans and goals to changing realities in an ever-changing industry.
• Partnering with the People Team, build and mentor a collaborative, high-performing team of software engineers.
• Drive performance for your team and hold them accountable to externally and internally imposed deadlines and targets.
• Give frequent feedback and coaching to your team members, coordinating with people from around the company to get a full understanding of your team’s performance

What We Value:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a couple years in a leadership capacity
• Demonstrated ability to lead the design and development of complex, innovative backend solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to work closely across different teams and functions.
• Experience establishing successful partnerships with key stakeholders such as product managers, project managers, and business owners.
• Strong business sensibilities, with a proven ability to influence others and make excellent business and technical decisions.
• A customer focused empathy and understanding of the challenges that developers face when using an application development platform, and a vision for how great products can help.
• Experience with functional programming languages and other elements of their tech stack (Terraform, Ansible, OCaml, AWS).
• A strong focus on writing code that is secure and stable at scale.
• An interest in the digital asset space and the potential for change that Decentralized Finance presents to the global economy.  

THIS ROLE IS LOCATED ONSITE IN CHICAGO, IL. MUST BE OPEN TO RELOCATION.

Base Salary Range: $160k -230k
